::: History of Avia

Avia, the Czech Republic manufacturer, was founded in 1919 as an aircraft and engine manufacturer. Before World War 11, Avia built up a strong reputation as as aircraft design and production company. It was especially renowned for the famous Czech fighter - the Avia B-534. After the war, Avia manufactured the 14-32, the largest airplane ever produced in the Czech Republic.
In 1946, during the post war era, Avia became involved in the automotive industry, producing trucks and buses. In 1995, the Korean conglomerate purchased a majority shareholding in Avia which resulted in the company being renamed Daewoo Avia. A modernised truck range was developed and launching of the D Line took place in 2000. A new production facility was built with state of the art tooling and engineering facilities available. In 2005, Daewoo sold their shareholding and thus the re-emergence of the Avia brand took place.
